A dynamic model for a nuclear power plant steam generator (vertical, preheated, U-tube recirculation-type) is formulated as a sixth-order nonlinear system. The model integrates nodal mass and energy balances for the primary water, the U-tube metal and the secondary water and steam. The downcomer flow is determined by a static balance of momentum. The mathematical system is solved using transient input data from the Philippsburg 2 (FRG) nuclear power plant. The results of the calculation are compared with actual measured values. The proposed model provides a low-cost tool for the automatic control and simulation of the steam generating process. The “parity-space” algorithm is used to demonstrate the applicability of the mathematical model for sensor fault detection and identification purposes. This technique provides a powerful means of generating temporal analytic redundancy between sensor signals. It demonstrates good detection rates of sensor errors using relatively few steps of scanning time and allows the reconfiguration of faulty signals. 相似文献

Analytical models for virus transport in saturated, homogeneous porous media are developed. The models account for three-dimensional dispersion in a uniform flow field, and first-order inactivation of suspended and deposited viruses with different inactivation rate coefficients. Virus deposition onto solid particles is described by two different processes: nonequilibrium adsorption which is applicable to viruses behaving as solutes; and colloid filtration which is applicable to viruses behaving as colloids. The governing virus transport equations are solved analytically by employing Laplace/Fourier transform techniques. The paper summarizes recent experiments on diffusion at migrating grain boundaries (GBs) occurring during discontinuous reactions, like discontinuous precipitation (DP) and diffusion induced grain boundary migration. Analytical electron microscopy was used for measurements of the solute concentration across individual solute-depleted lamellae. These data combined with information on the growth velocity and the thickness of an individual lamella allowed the determination of the local values of the diffusivities of the moving reaction front of the DP cell in Al–Zn, Ni–Sn, Cu–In and Co–Al alloys. The obtained diffusivities and activation energies are very similar to the relevant parameters of stationary GBs. This allows us to conclude that there is no significant difference in the rates of diffusion along migrating and stationary GBs in the systems investigated. It is therefore believed that the diffusivity values of the moving reaction front of the DP reaction can be a source of reliable information on interfacial diffusion characteristics, especially in systems and/or at temperatures where radiotracer data are not readily available. 相似文献

The expression levels of many thousands of genes can be measured simultaneously by DNA microarrays (chips). This novel experimental tool has revolutionized research in molecular biology and generated considerable excitement. A typical experiment uses a few tens of such chips, each dedicated to a single sample—such as tissue extracted from a particular tumor. The results of such an experiment contain several hundred thousand numbers, that come in the form of a table, of several thousand rows (one for each gene) and 50–100 columns (one for each sample). We developed a clustering methodology to mine such data. In this review I provide a very basic introduction to the subject, aimed at a physics audience with no prior knowledge of either gene expression or clustering methods. I explain what genes are, what is gene expression and how it is measured by DNA chips. Next I explain what is meant by clustering and how we analyze the massive amounts of data from such experiments, and present results obtained from analysis of data from colon cancer, brain tumors and breast cancer. 相似文献
